Finally starting my blog, start by resuming January's events

Hello world!

After several months of intense work and late nights, I’m happy to share with you my newly updated website :) The goal is to showcase my work and personal life in a effort to connect better with my TV viewers and social media friends.

With this update, I’ve decided to start a blog and share a more in-depth look at some of the things that happen behind the scenes while working for Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra, NBC 10 Boston & NECN, information on events I volunteer at, emcee or host, and add some personal notes about my life out side of work.

I also want to use this platform to help, guide and inspire anyone that wants to go after their goals and dreams but isn’t quite sure how to do it. As the first person in my family to obtain a Bachelors degree, I faced countless hardships figuring out ‘how to college’ — how to apply to a university, how to get FAFSA, find internships, get mentor-ship, etc. By sharing my experience and providing some tips, I hope no one out there has to go through many of the difficulties I did while pursuing my goals.

So with that I begin my first blog post with a recap of January’s events.

Starting the year in the NYC

January 1st— My start to the year was very cold and wet. I wanted to have the full experience you see on TV when welcoming the new year in the big apple— the music, the ball drop, the confetti, the big celebration and all the people. That was the goal, but mother nature wanted to add new elements to the mix.

For several hours, we endured strong winds, rain and cold temperatures, as we crammed our way into Time Square with millions of people who had the same goal as I did.

I forgot to take my rain boots and a proper jacket, so you can image how wet I was by the end of the night! Not to mention how sick I was in the following days.

But as you can image, I thought it was well worth it. One heck of a way to start out the new year- 2019.

¡Fiesta! Company Holiday Party

January, 5th— Our big family of Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra, NBC 10 Boston, NECN and NBC Sports Boston celebrated our company holiday at the beginning of the year at Royale Boston.

More than 500 people attended, that included employees from all four TV stations and their plus ones. It turnout to be a night of dancing, signing and creating memories outside of work with the people we see the most on a daily basis.

Three Kings Day - Los Tres Reyes Magos

January 6th— As part of our Latino heritage , we celebrated Three Kings Day or Día de los Tres Reyes Magos at Veronica Robles Cultural Center (VROCC). This is a non-profit that focuses on promoting Latin-American cultures among the youth for a better tomorrow. It is also an organization I have been involved with since I moved to Boston. Here I’ve volunteered and emceed several of the community focused events they have organized.

For the Three Kinds Day event, I was in charge of the gifts and everything that involved handing them out to our kids. In the weeks leading to the event, I did and inventory of ALL THE TOYS— this took some time, but we wanted to make sure every child received a gift. With the help of the veteran volunteers, I made a logistical plan for the day of the event with a strategy to hand them out.

When the time finally came, we got into a rocky start, but by the end of the night every child got a toy from The Three Kings.

I’d like to note that EVERYONE involved in this event, or any of those organized by VROCC, are all created by volunteers. This for the sole purpose to keep our Latin culture alive, even when we are thousands of miles away from our home countries.

Telemundo Boston MMJ Workshop

January 11th & 12th— Our amazing company, NBC Universal, dedicated two full intense days of training for us MMJ’s to become better storytellers, photojournalists and presenters. MMJ is a TV reference for Multimedia Journalists, sometimes referred to as Video Journalists or ‘one-man-band’ journalists. This means we shoot, write, edit and produce the stories you see on your TV. Yes, all by our selfs!

DISCLAIMER: Since I work the night shift, I mainly work alongside a photographer nowadays, but occasionally I get to go out in the field and do MMJ stories. If you know me, you know how much I LOVE TO MMJ, but I think I can leave all that for another blog post. ;)

Our amazing talent coach, Tony Martinez, had us busy for two days, submerging us in new ways of thinking to better tell stories and be able to visually show them.

I am extremely grateful to work under a company that commits itself in investing in it’s people and values their work. This goes by saying that two of the trainees during this workshop, are colleagues from our Telemundo Philadelphia affiliate who were flown to Boston for several days to take part in this training. I know, amazing right?!

That’s all I have for today, thank you for making it this far! Until next blog…
